The WHO recommends that comprehensive contraceptive information and services be provided during antenatal and postpartum care. The WHO recommends that all women be counselled on birth spacing and family planning. Contraceptive options should be discussed, and contraceptive methods should be provided if requested.
To achieve this goal, the WHO Postpartum Family Planning Compendium integrates core WHO guidance for healthcare providers, healthcare program managers, and policy-makers to guide women though their family planning decision-making in the first year postpartum.
